Asbestos Project Overview

The project consisted of refurbishment asbestos surveys for a large number of care home facilities located in the North of England and Scotland.

The client, a leading Engineering support company based in Newcastle upon Tyne, instructed Asbestos Audit Ltd to thoroughly inspect more than 60 properties for the presence of asbestos in order to allow the workforce to safely undertake the renovation works.

The asbestos surveys took place over a 4 week period with teams of surveyors entering the properties alongside the client representative. The scope of works was confirmed on site prior to each asbestos survey being undertaken.

Doing this resulted in less damage being caused and less disruption for the residents of the buildings. Asbestos was located in around 60% of the buildings surveyed. The material could be managed in situ in most cases with a limited number requiring full asbestos removal prior to the main project works starting.

A number of asbestos containing materials were encountered during the refurbishment asbestos surveys. The materials were a mixture of licensed and non licensed asbestos. If damaged during renovation there would have been a high risk to human health.
