ASBESTOS IN SOILS PROJECT OVERVIEW

Asbestos Audit Ltd were commissioned by one of the North East biggest house builders to assist with an ongoing project on the outskirts of Newcastle.

The new housing estate is currently under development. Excavation works to the new roadways and services were well underway when one of the machine operators noticed something different in his bucket. The material turned out to be asbestos within the soil.

Asbestos Audit Ltd were on site within an hour of the first phone call and the area made safe. Following this the material was fully sampled and assessed alongside the extent of the contamination.

A plan was then put into place to deal with the asbestos and dispose where necessary for the upcoming works to continue. All works were carried out to the current asbestos regulations taking into account the latest CL:aire Asbestos in Soils Guidance. The site was made safe, and construction could begin as planned without disruption and significant costs.
